FAQs
What is psychotherapy?
Psychotherapy offers us an opportunity to spend concentrated time on ourselves with a skilled therapist who can help us unpack our story, discover the root of our issues, and give us new clarity on our past and present experiences. It aims to support personal growth, improve mental well-being, and resolve deep-seated emotional issues by fostering insight and encouraging healthier ways of coping with life's challenges.
At Base, we are trained in traditional evidence-based techniques and also incorporate a range of other theories and approaches to treatment. As well as talk therapy, our approach often includes a focus on the body.
Do you offer therapy online or in-person?
We are currently only seeing clients online via Zoom.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost per 50-minute appointment is $145AUD. After-hours appointments—5pm & 6pm (Melbourne time)—are $165AUD. Some concession appointments are available upon inquiry and based on practitioner availability.
How long are psychotherapy appointments?
Appointments are 50-minutes in length. We also offer 100-minute sessions where appropriate.
How long will it takes to see positive change?
The therapeutic process is unique to each individual and varies based on how long they have been experiencing challenges. Research shows that weekly therapy accelerates improvement in comparison to less frequent sessions.
Can I use a Mental Health Care Plan?
No, Medicare rebates do not currently apply to psychotherapy in Australia. However, the cost of therapy at Base is oftentimes on par with the ‘gap fee’ paid when utilising a Mental Health Care Plan to see a psychologist.
